I need your opinions.

Situation:
I am in intern in a regional BB (JPM,MS,ML, etc.) office in the IB's CMBS department. I graduate in Dec and want to be in NY in the corp. finance dept in the same bank, or similar bank.

I want to make my resume stand out a little bit more so I was thinking of taking an online modeling course. I already know alot about the models just not how to build one. Should I do the course to make my resume look better? Do you recommend TTS, Dealmaven, WSP? It's gotta be a good thing that I come in with a great foundation, right? Thanks.

You should indicate that you are familiar with those models, concepts, etc., but do not mention under any circumstance an online training course you took such as WSP or Dealmaven. If you know it, you know it. People always like to think that you studied the concepts in some formal class setting and learned/will learn directly through the application of that knowledge within an IB environment. I've heard senior I-bers liken those online courses to obtaining a collegiate degree out of a cracker jack box obviously b/c they feel the best method of learning is being in the actual environment and doing the prescribed work.

that makes sense but wouldnt it look good that i am trying to get ahead? wouldnt it show that i am motivated and determined to get/do this job?

i never thought of it in this light. interesting.

From my perspective this is very bad advice. I took one of these classes and interviewers loved it. Mind you, it was just a bullet point on my resume and I had used the course as an informal training for my internship where I got substantive modeling experience, and this experience dominated my resume.

In an ideal world you would have 2 years of financial modeling experience before you interview for a FT gig. This is not an ideal world, and not only will taking one of these classes be a nice bullet point on your resume, but you will also cover 90% of the technical questions asked in FT IBD interviews, which alone is worth the cost of admission in my eyes.

Based on your experience and maybe words of mouth, which one do you recommend? TTS, Dealmaven, WSP? Thanks.
