IB from Rutgers school of Arts and Sciences?
I know that Rutgers isn't a target that banks recruit at, however I'm aware that there are a decent number of Rutgers grads that get jobs on the street, most of whom were part of LIBOR, etc.
What I wanted to know is, how much would it hurt my chances of breaking into IB if I end up going to Rutgers school of Arts and Sciences, majoring in either English or Biology (I know they're worlds apart, but bear with me) as opposed to Rutgers Business School?
Im going to be a freshman next year. I think I could easily transfer to the Business school after a semester if I had to, but Id honestly be a lot happier at Arts and Sciences.
Tl;dr - Is it necessary for me to go to Rutgers Business School if I want a chance to work in IB or can I stay at Rutgers School of Arts and Sciences, maintain a good GPA, network, and still have a chance?
Rutgers grads mostly end up in BO/MO roles on the street. Although I do know a a lot of guys who got offers for S&T and ER. Most of these guys have high GPAs and had good internships in finance before. Chances at IB are slim, only a handful get in...but it is possible if you network your way through.
The difference between going to SAS and Business school is not much except the business school has exclusive career fairs that banks like GS, JPM, Citi come to recruit for every semester.
It will be easier to break into IB from a non-target if you're majoring in accounting or finance. That being said, Rutgers is a non-target, so what I would suggest is to get the best possible grades that you can get during freshman year and then transfer to a target.
