No it wouldn't work on the network, and even if you were able to somehow do it, compliance would shit a brick. They'll give you a laptop, so all you need to bring in is an iPod and you'll be fine.
What some organizations might do is re-image your laptop with the company image. It would essentially be like receiving a company laptop only yours would have different specs.
If this were the case you would be able to connect to the network by simply plugging in a Category-5 cable (aka Ethernet cable).
Anyone on here willing to name the banks that give laptops?
every bank almost. I think only GS is desktop, but not sure
So should I not buy a laptop?
definitely not.
you should, because it is a bad idea to haul one from work just to browse the inet. If you have a desktop, then that's fine too
Does Citi give laptops? I thought they didn't. And (if so) are analysts allowed to take them home for personal use, or are they "in house" laptops?
Citi doesn't give laptops.
anybody know about mm banks...I was thinking about buying a new one...but I won't if I don't have to.
Does ML give laptops?
you'll probably want to have a personal computer. i'm a tech guy by training (worked for google, engineering bg, etc) and i can guarantee that any decent bank's IT department will have your company laptop's network connection go through the bank's intranet via a vpn (or at least a proxy).
What that means is that the bank can see what you browse, even from home, because it passes through them. Unless you have no problem letting your work know every site you ever go to, every email you ever receive, every conversation you ever have, get a personal computer.
