London BB - Year Out, Career Killer?

Hi all,

Disallusioned IBD N2 here at a London BB. Wondering how stupid an idea it would be to take a year out (ie resign then go travelling for a year [figure out what i actually want to do blah blah blah] and then look for a new job) after becoming an A1.

I think it's stupid to do it as an analyst, especially in the current market, but is it going to kill my career if I do it soon after becoming an associate? I would probably come back to look for MM PE or similar.

Cheers chaps

I think this would only make sense, if you are able to secure an offer for a1 or mm oe before taking the time off I have seen people take time off before starting a new job so that would probably be your best bet. I am pretty sure 1 year won't happen, but maybe 6 months is enough or 4?

I'm talking about liquid. Rich enough to have your own jet. Rich enough not to waste time. Fifty, a hundred million dollars, buddy. A player. Or nothing. See my Blog & AMA
