unless you're interviewing for a lower tier bank or if the interviewer expects you not to know shit for financial technicals, then they won't ask you about a stock or a company. save the interest in markets for your broker, analysts dont need to know anything about what's going on with stocks

I was asked at three different BB IB interviews to talk about a stock...I'm not a finance major. I would definilty know about one or two stocks. The question definitly comes up. As KillerMike said, it's not about its relevance to ibanking, but rather a way to demonstrate your interest in the markets.

as I said before, unless you're interviewing for a lower tier bank or if the interviewer expects you not to know shit for financial technicals. for sei, that would be non-finance major = no expectation of knowledge for technicals

on a side note, testing whether a person has interest in the markets is a dumb way to test whether he/she has interest in ib and I'm sure most interviewers understand that. besides, what is a 'good' stock pick that shows your interest in the markets and where does that cross into showing the interviewer you should be in s&t

Congratulations onickjo! If Mr. White's ever interviewing you, you will not have to talk about a stock. Make sure to ask him who he's interviewing before going into your next one.

Seriously though, if you're looking for a stock to talk about, just pick a company whose products/services you're familiar with. It makes it a lot easier to understand why their stock's performance.

Mr. White, you are one annoying MoFo. You come on here bashing other people and this is not the first thread where you are clearly wrong. You don't have valid comments or arguments. All you do is repeat the same stupid claim over and over again - a sign of lack of actual knowledge/facts. Please stop misleading people as you are probably one of those kids who think that only GS TMT, CS Sponsors, MS M&A will cut it. When your only offer from SunTrust Capital Markets comes, let's talk then...

Sorry kid, I'm alredy at one of those firms, and yeah, I know more about this topic than you. When you end up getting your offer at SunTrust, come and talk to me. Maybe you can be my intern.
