Recommendation letter question
I'm a rising senior and I just finished an IBD internship at a boutique investment bank in NYC. I went into the program knowing that they have barely any analysts and they don't hire for full time out of their summer intern programs. That said, the MD's really liked me and said they would serve as references. They also said that if I wrote up recommendation letters, they would look them over and sign them.
I know that in BB interviews, they ask if you got an offer. I spoke to contacts at a ton of BB banks and they said to explain that the bank doesn't recruit full time out of the summer class and to get a letter of recommendation.
Since I'm writing the letters, I was wondering if I should include a paragraph explaining that, due to uncertain bandwidth requirements and certain structural issues, they don't hire out of the summer class and so that's the reason they couldn't give me an offer. Should I include a paragraph like that or should I leave it out and have the letter only be about how awesome I am and how good of a job I did?
You can do a hybrid.
e.g. "Bob interned with our firm in Summer 2012. Even though we did not have plans to hire any of the interns, Bob's dedication and spirit paralleled those of the firm's full-time employees. He acted with the utmost professional conduct and carried himself extremely well. Bob spent only a short few weeks at our firm, but he has definitely made a permanent impact on this organization."
