RSM vs Bocconi vs UK MSc Finance for IB

Good afternoon guys,

Quick rundown: Bocconi vs RSM vs alternative for London IB? British citizen, I am willing to learn language, cost is slight issue, GMAT FE 645 score yet Q low (will retake), zero experience.

I am British citizen looking to break into IB in Europe. I graduated with a gpa 4.0 (first) from a non-target uni, and have taken the GMAT FE scoring 645, albeit with a low Q score (50th percentile) so I am going to retake it.

I have already applied to RSM and am waiting to hear back, I am also debating applying to Bocconi in R3. My preference would be to break into London IB, though am not against staying in Europe for a bit. Additionally, I have thought about applying to Warwick and Imperial, although I am not too sure of the edge they provide compared to RSM and Bocconi, and having a different cultural experience for a couple of years is something that strongly appeals to me.

I have zero experience. I know this is a big issue so I will be trying to line up internships from day one of start of term. Makes Bocconi more appealing due to the 2yrs, though I can convert an elective into an internship at RSM.

Language wise, I have already been learning Dutch and was aiming to be advanced/fluent by November. I am willing to learn Italian, but time is a pressure there.

Any advice on the stronger MSc, or should I just stay in the UK? Or is there another program I stand a chance in?From what I gather RSM places fairly well, but Bocconi seems to be a bit stronger, yet that may just be for Italians.

Thanks guys!

As mentioned in other topics, you should choose a master's (i) in the country where you want to work, or (ii) in the country where you come from (e.g. Bocconi for Italian, RSM for Dutch, HSG for German, HEC/ESSEC for French).

As a Brit, I don't see the point of doing a master's at Bocconi or RSM unless you really want to work in those specific places. It's also important to understand that continental Europe is not a big area where you can easily move from one city to another (within IB). Although Bocconi or RSM are highly recognized across the continent, it would be very difficult for an Italian from Bocconi to find a job in Paris or Madrid, and even more so for a non-Italian.

In your situation, I would choose a top UK Masters (LBS, LSE, Imperial) to start in London, then move to other locations down the line if you feel so.

I agree, yet if I am being realistic I do not see myself getting into LSE or LBS. Imperial maybe, yet with the cost being 40k+ it is very expensive. That was the thinking behind RSM as it is relatively cheap, yet it can still be a pathway. I do not mind staying in Netherlands, yet my first preference is definitely London. I just worry about placements for it. If there is any chance of breaking in I am willing to do the extra leg work to make it happen.

I'm in the same boat, currently working in London but applied to RSM and want to continue working in London post graduation. I personally believe RSM has brilliant ROI, way better than LSE or LBS where you need to pay around 45-60k for the programme, compared with 2,3k at RSM. I don't agree with the theory that you need to study where you wanna work when you are British. You already have the edge of having the citizenship and work permit so it's a different situation than the one a foreigner faces when he has no direct links to the UK.

What do you think about doing a semi target that places in ib in your country(Italy) and then going for a master post experience(for example mfin LBS)?

It will still be hard to break into IB from these master's programmes with zero experience. Maybe take a year out to do some off cycles, and then enrol on an MSc.

Off topic question but i dont know where else to ask, If i were to enter a masters program upcoming in the year (2024/2025), how would the SA recruitment work as courses start in September but SA2025 applications open in August for the UK. Do i just apply as as an 'incoming' student or wait till Sept then apply in Oct?

Uncertain....

Yeah that shit was nuts. I also wanted to apply but the application closed before I even blinked my eyes. I applied to their Accounting & Financial Management Program as an alternative option. From what I heard, RSM is a really tough university to study at, just like the other schools in the Netherlands. But RSM's education quality is top notch, that's for sure. If I were you, I would go for RSM, the program is very practically oriented where you have both lectures and workshops.
