Campus Recruiting GPA Problem: Equity Research Internship.

We're about to get into the recruiting cycle for junior summer internships at my target school. I went though the orientations and all. I'm trying to land an Equity Research Internship.

The one problem it looks like I'm going to have is that I may not be able to qualify for a lot of the good internships they try to get out of my school since many of them a 3.5 GPA minimum requirement or something like that. I have a 3.3.

It kinda blows but our school's recruiting office keeps telling us you can't apply for jobs where you don't meet all the requirements (GPA being the problem here). Any advice on what I should try and do?

I have maybe two or three close family connections (mom, dad, uncle). One parent is a Director back office at GS/JP/MS but that's unlikely to help for ER. My best bet might be the uncle who's pretty high up at GS/JP/MS, but works in Europe/Asia. Not exactly sure what kind of influence he would have. And then there's family friends, but none of them are really at top banks.

I feel like I have a decent resume. 3 internships. Boutique during my freshman year. BB PWM freshman summer. Accounting SA this past summer at large I-bank.

So what do you guys think I should do about the GPA problem? I'm considering just trying to explain it to the campus recruiters when they do their presentations on campus. I really feel like I should at least try and do something since I don't want my stupid GPA to be the reason I get held back from internships that are here for the taking.

Your best bet would be to set up an appointment with your career center. Explain that while there's a GPA cutoff you feel that your work experience would make you a viable candidate for certain positions. Make the case that you would like the opportunity to apply to positions and let the firm determine whether or not you're worth an interview.

Beforehand I would polish my resume (post it up here) to show career services that you are a good representative for the school to hiring firms.

On top of that reach out to what contacts you can make. Applying doesn't guarantee you an interview.
