How to come off as natural

I am preparing for an interview and I saw many people “warning” about preparing too much or learning stuff by heart and ending up giving robotic answers .
How would someone be natural by giving his own perspective/storytelling and also staying on the right answer ?

Don’t rehearse, make sure you truly understand the core concepts (behavioral or technical) of the answers you want to give and do so as such. I treat interviews like a game where I’m having a conversation with someone, and every good thing I say wins me a point. Know your core concepts and go into it treating it like a convo and you won’t be a bot

To come off as natural in an interview while still delivering well-prepared answers, you can follow these strategies based on the most helpful WSO content:

  1. Practice, but Don't Over-Memorize: While it's crucial to prepare your answers, avoid memorizing them word-for-word. Instead, focus on understanding the key points you want to convey. This allows you to deliver your answers more fluidly and adaptively, depending on the flow of the conversation.

  2. Storytelling with Authenticity: Use real-life examples and stories to illustrate your points. This not only makes your answers more engaging but also helps to demonstrate your genuine experiences and insights. Make sure these stories are relevant and highlight your skills and achievements pertinent to the role you're applying for.

  3. Emotional and Tonality Layering: As suggested in the WSO threads, practice adding layers of emotion and varying your tone to make your delivery seem more natural and less rehearsed. This can help in making your responses feel more genuine and less like a recitation.

  4. Engage with the Interviewer: Turn the interview into a two-way conversation by showing interest in the interviewer's questions and occasionally asking relevant questions in return. This helps in breaking the monotony of a Q&A format and makes the interaction more dynamic.

  5. Tailor Your Responses: While you may have prepared frameworks for common questions, always try to tailor your responses to the specific context of the job and company. This shows that you're not just reciting pre-prepared answers but are genuinely interested in the position.

  6. Feedback and Adjust: If possible, practice with a friend or mentor and ask for feedback on your delivery. Use this feedback to adjust your approach, ensuring that you come across as confident yet natural.

By integrating these strategies, you can deliver well-prepared, yet natural and engaging responses that effectively showcase your qualifications and fit for the role.
