Academia to AM
Hi everyone,
I've been stalking these forums for close to 6 months and figured its about time i posted.
I'm a US LAC undergrad in Econ and Math currently at Oxbridge doing a Masters in Economics. I intended on going on to a Phd but got slightly frustrated and disillusioned with academia by my second year. I do a lot of econometrics and international economics and was hired by a boutique global macro focused Asset Management company as a research economist. I guess I've "broken in" but am just starting to get a feel of what this world is like.
I start working in August and am looking forward to hounding you all on this board. My current plan is to get through my CFA by July 2015 and go to B school in 2016.
Okay
:P Figured its just intros. Comments, questions, thoughts welcome!
Intended to, intent on. GMAT might test you on that one!
It took you 6 years of econ to become disillusioned... and you call yourself a great student? It took some of us approximately 2 days.
sounds like you're not gonna pursue an econ phd, but i know those guys are highly sought after at global macro firms (for obvious reasons), or at least the ones i know of.
sounds like there's some demand for your expertise as well though. good luck!
Well I still love Economics. I just dont like the idea of spending 3 years doing one piece of research. The disillusionment is with the Phd and academia, not with the subject matter.
