New Monkey Intro

Hello Everybody,

I'm a new user here on WSO--I'm looking forward to learning the ropes and getting involved in this community.

A brief introduction: I recently served five years in the United States Marine Corps (2013-2018). I enlisted at age 17 and in that time I got promoted five times over to the rank of Sergeant. I found myself leading young men (80+) in many difficult situations--I learned so much about who I am while I was in. I was constantly striving to do and learn more. That mindset has carried with me in my undergraduate studies. I have been attending a JC in San Diego County because I wanted to save as much of the "Post 9/11 GI Bill" for post graduate school. I recently got accepted into the Finance/Financial Services program at San Diego State University and will be transferring with a 3.81GPA. I will begin the program in January 2020 and expect to be there for the next two years. I am very much looking forward to this new chapter in my education and looking forward to getting involved in some of their programs (business honors program, undergraduate equity fund, etc).

The above (somewhat) summarizes where I am today. I am hoping to use WSO as a tool for learning and understanding the financial services community. I have my eye on investment banking but I recognize the challenges of breaking into the industry as a non-ivy, non-target, west coaster with virtually zero connections in the industry. I think I'd do great in the field as I mentally require cognitive challenge and involvement. I hope to use my veteran status and education to secure a good internship that can propel me into a career in the industry.

I have so many question--you'll be hearing from me!

Very Respectfully,
Mike M.
