The Friday night blues

What do you do on Friday evenings/nights when you wish you could do something fun like hit a bar with friends or go on a date, but have nothing lined up? I feel bored and a little lonely sitting in my apartment. I don't even have a pet to keep me company 🥲 What do you do to spice up your Friday nights?

Ah, the Friday night conundrum! It's like you're staring down the barrel of a weekend gun, and it's loaded with boredom bullets. Fear not, my friend, for I have a few tricks up my sleeve that might just turn your Friday night from a snooze fest into a solo fiesta. Let's dive into the treasure trove of ideas from the Wall Street Oasis archives:

  1. Embrace the Culinary Arts: Remember that large poke bowl with the extra unagi sauce you like? Why not try to recreate it at home? Cooking can be a therapeutic and rewarding way to spend your evening. Plus, you get to eat the results. Win-win!

  2. Virtual Hangouts: Just because you can't physically be with friends doesn't mean you can't hang out. Organize a virtual game night, watch party, or just a good old-fashioned video chat. It's a great way to connect and share some laughs.

  3. Dive into a Hobby: Got a hobby you've been neglecting? Friday night is your time to shine. Whether it's painting, coding, or finally starting that novel, immersing yourself in a passion project can be incredibly fulfilling.

  4. Self-Care Extravaganza: Who says you need a spa to pamper yourself? Run a hot bath, do some stretches, or try out a new skincare routine. Self-care isn't just about looking good; it's about feeling good, too.

  5. Plan Your Dream Trip: Even if you can't travel right now, planning a future trip can be a lot of fun. Research destinations, create itineraries, and dream a little. It's a great way to feed your wanderlust without leaving your living room.

  6. Learn Something New: Ever wanted to learn how to play the guitar or speak another language? There are countless online courses and tutorials out there. Pick something that interests you and start learning. It's never too late to add another string to your bow.

  7. Movie Marathon: Create a list of movies you've always wanted to watch but never got around to. Make some popcorn, get comfy, and start ticking them off your list. It's a great way to escape into different worlds without leaving your couch.

Remember, being alone on a Friday night doesn't have to be a downer. It's an opportunity to do things you enjoy, at your own pace, without any distractions. So, go ahead, spice up your Friday nights in your own unique way!

Lol, this actually happened to me last night. An MBA classmate of mine earlier this week wanted to do a 'boys night' this Friday after a networking dinner he had but I guess he canceled it or forgot to invite me. I was looking forward to maybe hanging out in a pool hall and having a couple of beers but heard crickets. I would have said no to going to bars / clubs as I wasn't feeling it and I don't think that group of guy friends would want to do that anyway. Ended up just watching a movie at home.

I personally like to stay in most Fridays. I like to just self-reflect for the week and maybe call family. I'm also on the older side of my MBA class and am over the going out bar / club scene. If I visit my MBA friends in their cities post MBA, I would much prefer a nice dinner (maybe a drink or two) + an event (sports / something arts related).

ACR Online Poker Tournaments. Usually the home game on Friday nights with poker pro Michael Loncar streaming on Twitch and playing on ACR. You get points for every home game you play and the winner over 4 months gets a $2,650 Venom ticket where the winner of that could get a $1M prize for first.

The casino is always a fun way to make a little money before the weekend really begins. Poker and blackjack for 2-3 hours is how I like to wind down after a particularly busy week if I have nothing else planned.
