The progressive-dominated educational system and MSM have been telling people for years it's ok to censor "bad speech," despite free speech literally being the 1st Amendment. Instead of individuals being taught to take responsibility for themselves and just growing a pair to block/ignore people they don't want to hear from, they've instead been told it's justified to unilaterally take away their speech because it's convenient.

Other websites use a verification system through a corporate email, but I am kind of skeptical of this site doing that. For one, I found this site to be most useful in my undergrad years when I was looking to break into finance. Two, I’m generally paranoid about anything compliance related don’t want my work to know any more about me than they have to.
That being said, maybe WSO could do a university email verification. I don’t have any other ideas. Totally agree though. High schooler should not be basing their whole life around getting into IB - id venture to say 90% of them couldn’t even tell you wtf an investment banker does. I’d enjoy this forum a whole lot more if they just weren’t on it in the first place
But isn't that the point? They are trying to learn and figure out what they want to do in life. I feel the exact opposite about the situation... I think it's great there are so many kids that are motivated enough to be on this forum. My youngest brother is in high school and I would be thrilled if he was on this site rather than playing video games and goofing off with his friends 24/7. Not to say that it should consume him, but there are much worse places high school kids could be on the internet.

I didnt go to a "prestigious" high school but I still was interested in IB. It was 2008 and I got really obsessed with finance, didn't know about WSO then. I mean I get banning snobs but if some kid is trying to learn about IB and how the IB world works then whats the issue with that. Yes the kid shouldn't post GS posters in his room lol

The most ideal scenario would prevent high schoolers from opining on actual career-deciding topics but seeing as that would be almost impossible to regulate, I would advise that most everyone try and heed advice from either seasoned users or certified users. It's not perfect but it's a better outcome for all involved

YES. Make it so you can only comment when you sign up with a corporate or college email. Some spaces, like Fishbowl or the League, require additional verification through LinkedIn.
Also, it's not like the questions are ever unique. It's always "where should I apply?" as if they don't know they should apply to every school in the top 20 if they really want to set themselves up well for IB. Having a dedicated forum for non-authorized account would be a great step in stopping this site from becoming collegeconfidential. It would also cut out the toxicity from non-target students trying to argue that their school is great. Kelley over Brown? Really?
Essentially, make the dedicated forums for IB/PE/HF/RE/etc only for authorized accounts and make a new one for non-authorized.
The problem is that notifications regarding SB/MS on posts you write get sent to that email. As one who leans conservative I really do not want my liberal university to see the political arguments I’m making.
Some quality control is needed. Otherwise, WSO will become a shithole like LinkedIn.
