Which divisions on Wall Street code regularly?
I am an economics major at a target school looking to go into finance. I am majoring in economics largely because my university does not offer finance as a major. This past year I enrolled in a couple comp. sci and statistical modelling courses, where I learned to code in Java, R, and Python. I've come to realize that I probably like coding better than finance itself; i.e. I'd rather be the one helping to build algorithmic models as opposed to being, for instance, an electronic trader and simply (blindly) use them.
It's rather late to switch majors as I've already done all of the prereqs and most of the core classes for Econ. Plus, my dad works at a hedge fund and I dislike how his job entails staring at a computer screen with little human interaction all day long. Is there a division or sub-division in finance that involves a lot of interaction with other people (as in S&T) but also makes regular use of coding? I think that would be a good balance for me. I've read that IBD may be one but the extremely long hours scare me away. Obviously quant is another one, but quants are super brilliant and educated people, and I'm not really looking to spend 8+ years trying to get a PHD and the like. Any suggestions?
Hi emp005, yes, I'm a bot, but I'm also good looking. Hopefully, these threads help you:
