A lot of funds list "operating partners" who I I believe range from executives-in-residence to part-time advisers available for roles in portfolio companies. Baird Capital Partners has operating partners listed on their website, for example, and I'm sure there are a lot of others.

Off the top of my head, you're missing KKR Capstone which is one of the most structured portfolio operating programs. If I recall correctly, BainCap's portfolio group is relatively new and they haven't fully established a normal career progression.

If you find a comprehensive list, I'd be curious to see it.

I hear there's a lot of talent-sharing and cross-pollination between those two firms.

Some PE firms have related consulting groups (Vista, Insight, KKR Capstone) that specifically work for their portfolio companies to improve operations (and due diligence ahead of investing). Might be interesting to you.

Fairly easy to get an Ops job that you're qualified for in a PE owned firm. You can work your way up to an ops guy that takes assignments for portfolio firms and has interesting work but moves around a lot. Ideally you'll want to be an operating partner but you're probably better accessing that through consulting. PE finance guys are real snooty so it will be hard to ever get enough respect to be considered on the team, unless you've got decades of hard fought C level experience and grey hair. As mentioned above.
