Based on the most helpful WSO content, preparing for a PE case study, especially for a prestigious firm like Rothschild's Five Arrows, requires a strategic approach. Here are some tips and insights that might help you as you prepare for your internship interview:
Understand LBO Models: Since you mentioned it's for the FAPI (Financial and Private Investments) sector, it's crucial to have a solid understanding of Leveraged Buyout (LBO) models. This is a common focus in PE case studies. Make sure you can build one from scratch, understand the mechanics behind it, and how different variables affect the outcome.
Practice with Previous Case Studies: While specific details about the Five Arrows case study might not be readily available, practicing with other PE case studies can be incredibly beneficial. Look for case studies that require you to evaluate a company's financial health, growth prospects, and potential for a successful LBO.
Focus on the Investment Rationale: Be prepared to articulate a clear investment thesis. Why does the target company make a good investment? Consider aspects like market position, competitive advantage, growth potential, and how it fits within the PE firm's portfolio.
Prepare for a Detailed Financial Analysis: Expect to dive deep into the financials. This includes analyzing the income statement, balance sheet, and cash flow statements. Be ready to identify key drivers of value and areas of concern.
Expect to Discuss Exit Strategies: PE firms always have an exit plan in mind. Be prepared to discuss potential exit strategies for the investment, such as an IPO, sale to another PE firm, or a strategic sale to a competitor.
Time Management: With a 48-hour window for the take-home case study, time management is crucial. Plan your approach, allocate time for research, analysis, and review, and ensure you have a clear structure for your presentation or report.
Review WSO Resources: The WSO community has a wealth of resources, including modeling courses, interview prep materials, and forums where you can ask questions and get insights from those who have gone through similar processes.
Remember, the key to success in a PE case study is not just about showcasing your technical skills but also demonstrating your ability to think critically about investments and articulate your thoughts clearly. Good luck with your interview process!
