Discussing a Deal in a Cover Letter?
I am currently applying for a FT position at a boutique bank in my city.
I am familiar with one of their deals from 2008, as my dad works for the acquired company. I know that the acquisition was an effective one, and the acquired company has flourished, receiving many important contracts in their space.
Is it acceptable to mention that my dad is an employee in a cover letter? Discussing this would allow me to described how I know about them, the deal, and how I know that they do solid work in their space.
Or, should I keep things more conservative with a generic M&I style letter?

Whenever I read "My dad is xyz...", all I can think is, 'that's fucking terriffic, why don't we hire your dad, he seems talented instead. Secondly, 2008? unless it was a shocker of a deal, or this firm only does two deals a year I don't think that anyone reading it will care.
That might be a good tidbit for the 'why this bank?' question. "Well, when I was a young highshool kid, I was able to witness the awesome power and might of your M&A department, and at that time I swore on Odin's Raven that someday I would join this group".
The deal was one of their largest. Several senior bankers have it listed on their bios.
Regardless, I think I will err on the side of conservatism.
