graduate student seeking IB
Hi guys,
I'm trying to find a job as a first-year analyst in investment banking. However, I didn't get any interview.
If anyone could give me advices, I'll really appreciate it. Thanks.

resume seems fine. school might be making the difference. also, you are from malaysia? not really a good place to be if you are looking for ib.
I'm from China; and I got an internship in Malaysia.
improve your english (if its the same quality as your written english in this post) - this is front office - your dealing with clients. When they get a pitchbook or a infopack, they expect it in english.
Thanks, rodneymullen.
Agreed. Work with a native english speaker on your resume...'Obtained dedicated trainings.." sounds like it was written by a robot.
OK, I'll find a native english speaker.
Should he keep the award that he got in MIDDLE SCHOOL on there ?
I'm not sure. Maybe I should delete it.
get that award off there, don't highlight random lines or words in your descriptions, network hard with it and you'll be okay, are there smaller ibanks, hfs, or pe shops you could go to through family connections? how did you get into CIMB, can you just stay there?
There are many ibanks, hfs and pe shops in Malaysia. I applied CIMB last year, and they interviewed me via phone . Actually, lots of students from UK went there to have their internship. A few are from the U.S. I talked to a staff in HR department after my internship, she said that I had a good chance to stay there. But I want to find a job in the U.S. first. I got family connections in Malaysia, so I don't think it's hard to work there. Thank you for your advices.
moving to the US you might be forced to downsize, esp since you've missed recruiting season
Yes, I'll graduate in May, that is the problem. I have to wait until Aug or Sep.
It's okay to leave off your undergraduate GPA if you have a graduate GPA?
I think it's okay. ppl who interviewed me didn't ask my undergraduate GPA very much.
......
"succesfully answered more than 50 telephone calls...".... Would change this for sure...what was the impact of your actions, whom did it benefit etc...be more results oriented in your approach....
Same with "networked with more than..."...its not the means that count, it´s the result you got out of it...so rephrase f.i. to: "Succesfully organized...by creating alumni/leader commitment through...etc"
Just my 0.02 cents though
don't bold-font goldman and cs. which bank you coordinated with doesn't make any difference in terms of whether you should be hired. and it only makes it look like you're desperate and trying to pander to the firms you're applying to.
