LSU MBA or MACC of University of Denver
Hi,
I am a new-comer and a foreigner to you Americans.
I am a senior now and I want to study in USA. Till now, I receive two admission. One is from LSU MBA with 50% Graduate Assistantship. The other is Macc of University of Denver without any financial assistantship.
I am wondering about your opinions about this two choices.
And is it fine for a senior to directly go to MBA?
I hope to know your ideas.
No to everything.
Neither and no.
Well, Thanks for your advices. And could you explain your reason to me?
what are your plans?
There some jobs that require 2-3 years of work experience, you will not get them. If you want to do IB, getting one from the LSU program will be a heck of a job.
The Macc program will open the doors to accounting jobs. That can be good to work 3 yrs in public accounting then get your MBA.
In some deep, distant corner of the internet... LSO is vomiting all over the place.
Wow. Great pull. Haven't seen an LSO reference in quite awhile.
Were u president of ur fraternity in college OP? And how many nattys would u say u pound per day while in undergrad?
My dad made this mistake.
DO NOT GET YOUR MBA IMMEDIATELY AFTER UNDERGRAD. Also do not get an MBA if it isn't from a top program. No LSU isn't a top MBA program. Doesn't matter what you were told overseas do not do it.
I hear The University of Redwood has a great MBA program.
Keep in mind, a "top" MBA program is a relative term. If you want to be an investment banker for a BB in NYC, then you need a very highly ranked MBA. If you want to work in CorpFin for a company or for an accounting firm in Colorado, the MAcc at DU is a great way to go. DU is also a pretty international school and it is a very relaxed / great environment. And, of course I'm biased because I live in Denver, but I think that Colorado is the shit.
If you give us an idea of where you'd like to go with your career, we can probably give you a better idea of what to do.
Well, actually, I prefer to be an accountant in a corporation. In addidition, what do you mean by saying "LSO"??
And particularly, I want to know whether studying MBA just after undergraduate is OK? I know little about the post-MBA choices and future.
LSO is leveraged sellout, a satire blog about life on Wall Street.
If you're looking for a position as an accountant for a corporation, the MAcc could help you break in, but you have to keep in mind that DU is a very regional school (unless you're at the top of your class). It will definitely help you get a job in the midwest region (Colorado, Arizona, Utah, New Mexico, etc), but to try and go from there to NY or CA, for example, will be pretty difficult.
Some people do try and get an MBA straight out of undergrad, but it's not a good idea. If you have a couple years of work experience, it gives you some perspective for the material you're learning. That's why the majority of good MBA programs require you to have work experience. LSU is not a great program, and probably won't help you much in finding a job.
So, work on your english language skills (very important if you want to work here), and either try and find a job as a recent graduate or find a Master's of Accounting program that you think you would enjoy (since that's the field you're interested in).
