Should I add this to my Sales and Trading SA Resume

Hello fellow monkeys!

I haven't posted a forum topic in a few years...mostly because I've been to reluctant to share any of my interests but over that period the site has grown substantially. I'm very impressed with the quality of responses and how helpful people are at WSO given that most users actually have quite busy lifestyles. With that said I would like to ask for some insight and advice on a conundrum that I'm currently facing.

I am trying to get a Sales and Trading summer internship for next summer in sales or sales trading before I head to grad school . I'm currently reformatting and editing my resume before I submit my applications/ start cold calling/setting up informational interviews and would like to know how some one in the industry would view a candidate who worked part time as an interviewer for a market research firm. I would like to include this in my resume because the job has taught me how to cold call ,persuade potential clients/respondents and improved my communication skills. I could have easily worked at a fast food franchise( my part-time job as a junior) but I felt that improving my profile by enriching my skill set through this job might be more helpful. It's also helping me pay for my grad school apps and GMAT.

Just a little background:

Applied Econ Major 3.3gpa at Canadian Target.

-Emerging Market Real Estate Dev Internship (very small firm)

  • Founder of University Poker Club
Regular Tournaments proceeds go to prize pool+charity raised over 10k in 2 years.

  • Volunteer at multiple charities, NGOs etc ex Big Brother Big Sister

I've had other part time jobs that could be added as well but I would like to use the market research interviewer job because I think it would be useful but I'm reluctant...since I'm unsure about how it would be viewed.

Any insight would be much appreciated.

I have actually worked for a market research firm also (BBM Canada, nka Numeris) in the call center and I appreciate the value of the job (no one would ever know: doesn't show up on my LinkedIn or resume). I specifically took that job because I was terrible when talking on the phone (I really needed the non-verbal cues). I ended up loving the job and getting MUCH better on the phone (but the pay was awful so I moved on).

Are you looking to start in Canada or U.S.? Toronto or Vancouver; New York or San Fran?

Also, first red flag, you are going graduating, but you don't have any relevant finance experience yet? Also as a fellow Canadian it pains me to say this, but there aren't any real "target schools" unless you are focusing on staying in Canada. I'm guessing you go to Ivey.

PM me. Happy to answer any questions.
