Accenture MCDP for Experienced Financial Analyst

I have an upcoming interview for a position with Accenture in the MCDP (Management Consulting Development Program). The thing I find odd about the position is Accenture is looking for an experienced (~1 year of experience) financial/operations analyst candidate. The reason I find this odd is it seems the MCDP is usually for individuals coming directly out of undergraduate or B-School. This is making it hard for me to relate the compensations, expectations, and exact department this position will be in.

The link below is the exact job description:
http://www.theladders.com/Management-Consulting-D…

My questions are:

  1. What would the expected compensation be for this position (considering Accenture is targeting experienced professionals with ~1yr of analysis experience)? Also, how much vacation would you receive (I have seen Accenture consultants have 4-5 weeks)?
-Undergrads going directly into the MCDP is around ~$70k base & ~$5K Bonus

  2. What department is this position under the Management Consulting "umbrella" at Accenture?
-I am thinking Finance & Enterprise Performance?

  3. How comparable is the Strategy Management Consulting arm of Accenture in comparison to other Start consulting firms (just below MBB?)?

  4. How does Accenture's MBA Tuition Reimbursement program work (do you work while getting your MBA, how long do you have to stay with Accenture after, etc.)?

  5. Does Accenture do per diem for travel expenses or does it depend on the client/project?

  6. Roughly, how many consultants are assigned to a project (i.e. how many consultants will you be traveling with to your clients location)?

  7. Overall, how is working for Accenture's Management Consulting department, in particular, being apart of the MDCP?
-It seems Accenture Mgmt Consulting department has been gaining more recognition over the past few years.

From reading on the WS Oasis forums there is a lot of great insight and knowledge out there, so I am looking forward to hear everyone's responses.

Thanks in advance!!

  1. What would the expected compensation be for this position (considering accenture is targeting experienced professionals with ~1yr of analysis experience)? Also, how much vacation would you receive (I have seen Accenture consultants have 4-5 weeks)? i think probably around 70 + a little bonus. you are right, MCDP is i think for analysts and then once you get promoted you choose/get put into a specific MC practice such as supply chain, risk, Finance and ops, etc.

  2. What department is this position under the Management Consulting "umbrella" at Accenture?

- From what i understand, and i could be wrong cus they change a lot, all analysts are in general MCDP and once they become consultants they choose a specific practice. I am, for example, in Risk but only came into risk once i became a consultant.

  1. How comparable is the Strategy Management Consulting arm of Accenture in comparison to other Start consulting firms (just below MBB?)?

- i think it is growing but not quite there yet. lets face it, Accenture is primarily an IT consulting firm. but they are trying to change that image and certainly are exepecting a lot of growth in MC. so, you could end up moving up the ladder quickly.

  1. How does Accenture's MBA Tuition Reimbursement program work (do you work while getting your MBA, how long do you have to stay with Accenture after, etc.)?

- you have to apply for the program, its quite selective and yes i think you do need to sign some sort of agreement to stay with accenture. but i think they compensate nearly all your tuition and from what i remember the deal is actually pretty good. i am planning to look into it when i get serious about my MBA.

  1. Does Accenture do per diem for travel expenses or does it depend on the client/project? yes, you always get per diems. amount depends on the location you are travelling to.

  2. Roughly, how many consultants are assigned to a project (i.e. how many consultants will you be traveling with to your clients location)? there is no answer. accenture has clients where there are over 4000 consultants working and projects where there is only 1 guy on the project. in 2 years my personal range of people has been 3 people and 40 people.

  3. Overall, how is working for Accenture's Management Consulting department, in particular, being apart of the MDCP? i would agree with what you said. accenture is trying to really build up its MC practice with new training methodology they just rolled out. but it really depends on your project. you could have a v shitty manager wholl make your life hell and you could have a manager who basically lets you do your own thing as long as work is good and done. i have had both.

Ppandey,

Great post and thanks a lot for the insight. A couple more questions for you:

1.What do you mean by being "on the bench"? -I am assuming this means you are waiting to be put on to a client project. If so, what do you do while being on the bench?

  1. What office are you based in? How often do you actually spend in the office if you are constantly traveling?

  2. What is the entire process for the Accenture MCDP interview? In particular the onsite interview? From what I have read it seems like 1st phone interview with recruiter to talk about resume and experience 2nd phone interview with upper level management consultant on experience/resume Onsite interview

  3. How freely/loose can you use your vacation time? Are you heavily restricted on when you can use vacations depending on client projects?

    • My fear is you may get 26 days of vacation, but how many people ACTUALLY use it because they can not get away from their projects they are on.

I imagine you can "make" up to another $4K or $5K from not spending most of your per diem money. For instance, I eat rather healthy and I would plan on doing a mini grocery run for each trip for breakfast/lunch... Then eat out maybe every other day.
