Advice for research associate interview at BMO Capital Markets
All- I am interviewing for an equity research associate position with the head of BMO's equity research department. Has anyone recently interviewed for an ERA position at BMO? What sort of valuation/accounting questions can I expect to encounter?
Any insight into the interview process at BMO would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
Do you know what sector ahead of time?
Sector is unkown as of the moment.
Then I would do the usual/generic prep for ER interviews. Nothing BMO specific here:
Have all the basic technical and valuation stuff down. Have a couple of names that you can pitch/talk about. Be able to discuss the market and especially the current macro environment (make sure you tie that into the stock pitches too, for the added effect/understanding of that specific industry).
Also (this is my opinion), but if you really want to stand out and you are confident in what you know, try saying something that's against the consensus, just make sure you can defend it logically. I've always been told that it's far better to be ahead of the curve than to be reactionary.
Good luck.
