Advice on negotiating

After months of trying I have finally received a job offer. The offer is for TS with one of the big four.

This is the position I applied for but during the interview the partner mentioned there was positions available in the financial modelling area if I was interested.

Naturally I would be much more interested in the financial modelling area so I am wondering how to proceed.

I got a call about an hour ago from HR confirming the job but she said it was for TS and made no mention of FM. I couldnt really talk so she said she would call tomorrow to fully discuss things.

Now my Q is should I make a big push for this or leave it? Would it be worth trying to contact the partner?

Also she gave me a salary figure and I am wondering should I just accept it (it is in line to a bit lower of what I was expecting) or should I negotiate?

Any advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

I'm seeing two questions. 1. Position - be careful with this one. Part of the reason you were offered a job is because they thought you wanted to work there. If you do bring up the other position, make it crystal-clear that you are 100% on-board for the position you have been offered..but that you want to make sure all options (for both you and firm) are being considered. 2. Salary - it's impossible to generalize across the Big 4, but generally, there is not much wiggle room given for negotiating salaries if you are being hired out of college. Not to say it's not worth a try though.
