Air Filters / Purifiers

Next month I'll be moving into a part of Manhattan that has a high amount of automobile traffic.

To minimize the amount of crap floating around in my room, can anyone recommend a good air filter / purifier to trap the pollutants? I've heard that the Sharper Image Ionic Breeze is crap, so I'm wondering if anyone knows anything else that's good.

I'm thinking of going with a Honeywell filter, but I'm not sure about the difference between IFD / HEPA filters, etc.

i have terrible allergies and use a honeywell. its distgusting to see how dirty the filters get, and refreshing to know that crap is not in my lungs. i havent tried any others out so i cant compare, but im pleased with mine. the only downside is when you turn it on the higher power levels, it can get quite loud, so i usually keep it on the lowest setting (sometimes when i go out ill turn it up then cut it back to the lowest when i return)

I have a lot of breathing problems and my doctor recommended me to get a Bionaire filter, it is really good, but if you're willing to throw down like $800+ for a filter, IQAir is by far the best you can buy

Reality hits you hard, bro...

A HEPA air purifier is the best option for trapping pollutants in your room, especially if you're moving to an area with high automobile traffic like Manhattan. HEPA filters can capture particles as small as 0.3 microns, including pollutants from cars like nitrogen oxide and carbon monoxide. When looking for a HEPA air purifier, make sure it has a high CADR (clean air delivery rate) and covers the size of your room.
