From what I know from a friend who works in FAST, it is Bear's structured product group: CMO, ABS, CDO, etc.
Supposed to be a feeder into trading with them.
Financial Analytics & Structured Transactions (F.A.S.T.), includes Structuring, Pricing Direct, Portfolio Strategies, Structured Transactions, Technology.
as others have said, FAST in Bear's entry point into S&T. its broken out into the groups mentioned above but from what ive heard the best area to be in is structuring. im pretty sure this group primarily deals with MBS/ABS/CDO so if your interests are in CDS for instance, im not sure this is really the best starting point. maybe others can chime in hear but it doesnt seem like bear is a structured as other firms when it comes to breaking into the S&T side of the business. anyone here work in FAST that can comment?
fast= the group that analyses financial instruments, eg MBS. people working in FAST are not traders, they help traders understand the underlying structure of the products being traded. research teams are also included in fast.
so bear has no fixed income s&t program then?

any opinions?
I did an internship at Bear in college and had a little exposure to them. I was in Bear's FIG group and we dealt with them on a couple of M&A deals. From what I gather (from limited experience as an intern) they were kind of the "big guns" so to speak. When we had an M&A deal, their group would work to establish a fair valuation and any structuring issues that needed to happen. My impression was that it was very quantitative heavy work, not endless pitching like I-Banking. Again, I did not have a lot of exposure to them in my 3 months there, but I hope that helps.
thanks for the reply
any other opinions?

Clearly Bear is a great fixed income shop.
Is going through Bear fast a good option?
What kinda stuff do you do, how much do you get paid, how long to move onto the trading desk?
