Bloomberg Mistake
Random Q-
I was pulling a couple sets of data from Bloomberg recently and noticed something was off. I called and realized it was a glitch in the their system.
As a result, I had to redo quite a bit of work.
Obviously I am not happy about this, is there anyway I can leverage this into like a discount or something? I work at a small-ish firm so every bit helps I guess plus I just want to get something back for all the hours I lost.
I highly doubt it. Speaking from my own experience, once you pull data from aggregators like Bloomberg a few times, you'll realize that the only way you can make sure you get the right info is to copy directly from filings. I don't blame Bloomberg though if there are sometimes mistakes in financials. You can only be so perfect when you have the entire world's worth of data to put together...
I wouldn't be surprised if there was some contract wording that excuses certain mistakes.
Does anyone else think that the Bloomberg Help Desk is run by a bunch of community college drop-outs? They don't have the slightest clue about many of the BP platform features.
Yeah I feel like they're only useful for the most basic questions; any harder and no matter how long you try you'll end up with something like "we have an enhancement request pending for that." I've generally found the actual help menu to be more useful in figuring out better functions and shortcuts...
While the initial help desk personnel certainly seem like community college drop outs at times, I’ve learned than if you actually have a hard question that you’re relying on them for an answer, if you get one of them on the phone they can transfer you to a specific department. The specialists usually know what they are doing and will figure it out for you.
Bloomberg help is totally useless. Chances are if you can't figure it out, they can't either.
Had mixed experiences with the Bloomberg help desk, with the negatives definitely outweighing the pros (in retrospect, maybe some questions might have been to specific or it might be reasonable to expect them struggling with them).
They call me within 30 seconds when I register a new account after being inactive for 30 days... That has to count for something.
Like Nabooru said, if you need the data to be perfect you need to get it from the original sources and not rely on a third party aggregating it for you. Otherwise, Bloomberg is pretty decent for the most part. I find their help desk to be hit or miss, tough to generalize. Their sector specialists and data team are obviously more helpful than the most junior guys, but sometimes their junior guys will go out of their way to help you. Also I find that CapIQ has pretty good customer service, rarely disappointed with them, but then again they mostly just deal with fundamental company data so more narrow scope.
^^ I agree CapIQ is always helpful, I have called them at 4am on a Saturday morn and they are on point. Bloomberg, it seems they have to call someone else, or forward my request. I also use SNL Energy, and they say if you find any mistakes in the data, you'll get $50. Their desk is also helpful and knowledgeable.
True. SNL's excel plugin is a little cumbersome tho.
