Bond trading

Hi all, long time reader, first time poster.

I've used the search function on WSO and haven't seen very much content on trading bonds using a virtual account. On that point, I have two questions:

First, does anyone know of any good virtual platforms one can use to trade government bonds online?
Second, is it feasible to try and set up a portfolio in excel? If so, any tips on how one would go about doing that? So what will I need for example... yields, prices.

Thanks!

its fabozzi first of all and another good one is options futures derivatives by Hull. this is not light though

learning about bonds and cds isnt going to be light reading beyond the basics

you can also check out investopedia or something like that generally very basic

No one really knows about this resource (I think i only do because i interned there) - but Morningstar has a great set of online "classes" - one is on stocks and they have a separate one on bonds along with a few other ones. the first "class" in each series def starts out REALLY basic, but they have 20 long "lectures" and the last ones cover muni bonds, strips, collateralized mortgage obligations etc, pretty sophisticated stuff for a summer to understand coming in. I printed them all out and read them before my summer last year and they really helped.
