My boss will leave the company in the next couple of weeks and I am concerned what this means for me.
I work in the corporate finance team of a multinational company but about 80% of my current work comes directly from my boss (of course). I work directly with other leaders in the company for the the remaining 20% of my work. My boss likes to stay in the limelight so it is possible that this might mean more exposure and better work opportunities for me. On the other extreme, with my boss gone, I am concerned if I should be worried about my job.
This is my first gig in finance so I am concerned what my boss's exit means for me. Thoughts?
I have been thinking about switching companies for a while now and have been taking my time to prep for interviews, network, etc. to get a "great" job but now I am concerned if I should just jump on to the next thing that comes up.
Let me know what you think based on what you have seen in the industry. Thanks!
mncs are HR machines, if yours is similar to mine, chances are they already had someone lined up that has been groomed to take on this position without skipping a beat. would wait to see who the new person is but i guess it's not bad to have your ear to the ground on other opps in case you don't like the new set up. turnover whether it's internal or external is good, it allows opportunity for you to gain more limelight and people to move up.
How long have you been working? Your job is not in jeopardy if your boss left, so I wouldn't worry about it.

I was concerned because my boss had pigeon-holed me a bit in terms of work mainly because she is a terrible control freak ... she literally did not want me talking to other departments in the organization - which made doing anything worthwhile in my job (corp fin) extremely difficult
Anyway, long story short it seems that her going may actually turn out to be good for me because of greater exposure and responsibility.. fingers crossed..
No problem. That sounds similar to my old boss. When he left, I took over our project which gave me great exposure and let me dictate my terms on my own. So I agree, this can be nothing but good for you, unless you get a worse replacement boss.
