Switching into Corporate Finance

Hi,

I currently work as an IT technology consultant (2+ years of experinece), but my line of work revolves around performing financial modeling work for corporate finance teams using non-Excel software. I want to switch into corporate finance; however, a lot of the opportunities I'm looking for require extreme Excel proficiency. I have done my fair share of Excel work, and do understand Excel functionality pretty well, but my largest accomplishments at work are obviously not Excel focused; thus, I cannot really cater my resume too Excel heavy. I do have the academic background (top 10 undergraduate business program with good GPA) and the relevant conceptual experience.

My question is: how do I best leverage myself to be competitive for the positions I'm looking for that really look for Excel-based experience? Does taking a Wall Street Prep Excel crash course (or any of the other reputable names) help my credentials. My firm is not too highly recognized, which is another thorn,, but my overall experience has been, in my opinion, pretty great.

Thanks for the advice.

I believe there is a connection with the 2 careers with thinking quickly, making decisions in the spur of the moment, and working well in teams.

I am curious about this as well. I am trying to do the same thing (but with a different background). ~5 years in Structured Finance trying to move into a Corporate Finance position at a F500 company in a small city I am trying to relocate to. I found a good person to contact on LinkedIn (works in the in-house M&A dept), but trying to find a contact to get me an intro. I'm a L2 candidate but not sure how to portray my skills for this department. Any thoughts, help would be appreciated. Thanks.
