Institutional sales people generally have sell side (S&T) or PWM experience depending on the client. Many get into sales straight out of undergrad. In my opinion it pays well. First years can expect to make anywhere from 90-120k.
I have a superday next week for a pretty prestigious AM firm for a position in institutional sales. Anyone who has been through this, what kind of questions should I expect? I know I'll be asked by sales and why I want to work there of course and to pitch them a stock or something, but what else?

thank you!
what does the buy-side institutional sales job consist of? how does it differ from sell side institutional sales??
Interested in this too.
Sales is sales, the only things that change are the products being sold and the customers of those products.
On the sell side, sales people are focused on selling their firm's research and trading capabilities to buy side firms.
On the buy side, sales people are selling their firm's investment management capabilities to institutional and retail investors.
Obviously there are more nuances, but that's the big picture view of sales on the buy side and sell side.
So an inst. salesman on the buyside sells the hedge fund/mutual fund etc. to other fund of funds and high-net worth investors?
Thank you John.
HNW is not institutional by definition. It is retail.
The institutional channel includes pension funds, endowments, insurance companies, sovereign wealth funds, etc.

How would I answer the biggest weakness question?
