Buyside Trading CMBS/MBS(Agency and Non-Agency)
Hi All,
An opportunity may come shortly for me at my firm and would like some information on exit opps specifically. Feel free to contribute any another tidbits.
I work at a buyside AM firm and have the opportunity to get into CMBS/RMBS trading. Was wondering what the exit opps are for a position like this.
I really like RE and am looking to get into it and this seems like a sure thing for me. Ideally, I want to work in a deal related function of RE. Something that involves valuation, long term investment decisions, and related. Is a transition like this readily available/normal? Or is it one of those "network your ass off"?
Is it execution trading?
Not sure. What would make it execution trading? They do more than just put in an order if that's what you're asking
What I mean is do you actually make your own investment decisions and then execute them or do you execute decisions made by analysts?
The former.
I think I've heard it's getting pretty quantitative these days. You'd probably get more and better info asking in the trading forum, admittedly. If I recall correctly, though, there are some very senior guys at prestigious REPE funds with tons of experience (maybe Fortress is who I'm thinking of) who have traded CMBS at some point in their careers.
