Can an SA get a ride??
Hey guys-long time lurker, first time poster.
I have what could be a very dumb question. I'm going to be an SA at a top MM firm in SF this summer and I'm trying to figure out the logistics of where I should live. Here's the thing, I could live for free and very comfortably with some family, approx 35-40 mins from the bank I'll be at. The problem is, BART (local transportation for the very few who aren't aware) stops running at midnight. I understand that banks have car service if you stay past a certain time. Would it be realistic to use the car service to drive me the 35-40 mins home on days when I miss BART? Would they even be willing to do it? Most importantly, would I be viewed as "high maintenance" or a "drain on resources" for taking such a long car ride as I am after all, just a lowly intern?
Also, I understand there will be other drawbacks of living so far from the bank as well as not living with other interns. I'm married though so I wouldn't be living with other interns anyways. I just want to address this aspect of the issue as I weigh my options.
Thank you to all!
You'll be fine. Just use UberX in SF. A 35-40 minute ride would be equivalent to the analyst and associates who take a black car for 15-20 minutes.

When I was an intern, I was taking c.$60 car home every night and got made a return offer. As long as you are hard working, not wasting time and it is genuinely needed, this really isn't worth worrying about.
No one in your bank (unless it's very small) that is making hiring decisions is going to know how much you're spending on Uber every night. Don't talk about it and enjoy the free rent.
definitely not a problem
Thanks guys! SB's all around!
Quick follow up: it sounds like it's not really a big deal if I take a car. Does this hold true if I'm getting a ride every night (as long as it's late enough of course) or should I solely use it for when I miss the train? It would obviously be much more convenient (not to mention the opportunity for an extra 35-40 mins of sleep) if I could use Uber on the regular.
Once again, thanks!
Take it every night! I'm sure they have an expense policy, most banks do and they will tell you about it your first week. For example if you stay after 10 pm, you can take a cab home for free etc. Good luck!
