Chicago Real Estate Firms - Anyone hiring?
I have searched up and down selectleaders and Indeed, but can't find much in terms of jobs for analyst / associate.
Anyone have any leads on who is hiring right now?
A lot of firms don't even publish openings except internally. Don't know Chicago well but I would go to websites directly and just reach out. Couple of REITs up there to consider....$ not as good as REPE but if you're just starting out, great way to get in the business and better work/life balance.
I hate postings in general...even if something's there, the firm probably got 1,000 resumes, many from unqualified candidates, and even if you're a perfect fit, they just may not come across yours. Check out Steve Dalton's Two Hour Job Search...you may have to pay for it but bottom line is only use postings to prioritize...if it's posted, you know there's an opening...then use your network, LinkedIn, whatever to make a direct connection. Even if nothing's posted and you're in Chicago, I'd try to find someone in the organization willing to meet w you for an informational int, make a great impression, and you're going to be at the top of the list when they're looking.
Forgot to add...tough to give you specifics since I don't know what exactly you're looking for but shoot me a PM...know of a few firms that have feelers out their for finance guys/acquisitions but they're not posted in the aggregators (indeed, etc.)

Get off of Select Leaders and call people. OR, call people once you find the opportunities on Select Leaders. Look up alumni from your school. Networking 101 man, I can't even believe you're posting this.

What are some Chicago-based real estate firms that are known to have summer internship programs for undergraduates? I am looking for companies to start contacting later on this fall/winter am am interested in hearing about opportunities at any type of RE firm (REITs, brokerage, development, private equity, etc). Off the top of my head... Jones Lang LaSalle, Prudential (large RE portfolio), LaSalle Investment Management, Marcus & Millichap, General Growth Properties, Heitman, CB Richard Ellis.

I can assure you that LIM does not take on interns. With that said, JLL does bring on interns, but you may have missed the boat for this summer. Hines, John Buck, Prudential, CBRE, General Growth Properties, Equity Office, and RREEF all have a large presence within the city.
There's also a good amount of bulge-bracket and middle-market investment banks with real estate coverage groups in downtown (Greenhill and M3 Capital Partners specifically come to mind).
JMB Realty is a big one there.
I think JER has a decent-sized office there.

Smart move on your part cclow. It seems like most firms are kick-starting their recruiting efforts again. I've seen a significant up-tick in hiring at the analyst level as most firms (at least on the private equity side) are raising new funds and focused on investing existing capital.
Good luck in your search efforts, I'm sure it won't be too hard to land something for next summer given your early start.
A little more complicated because I am a rising sophomore but I'm hoping I can get over that by having a little experience and starting early. Thanks for the help.

I have a question for you guys. How is Chicago’s commercial real estate market/job market? Is there enough activity to go around? I currently work at a CRE brokerage firm in NYC and have been thinking about relocating to Chicago due to unfathomable cost of living in NYC, plus I went to umich so I assume there are plenty of alumni there. I would appreciate it if anyone could chime in on this.

Tons of activity in Chi. A lot of foreign money coming into the city as an alternative to SF and NYC. Office vacancies decreasing, cap rates compressing, few promising office developments happening. CBRE and JLL are the heavy hitters, but most other companies are thriving as well. What area of brokerage are you in?
