Citadel Chicago

They recruit actively at NU and Chicago. It's a tough firm to get in and even tougher to stay in -- I hear that if you don't make numbers, you don't stay. But those who do stay make a lot of money. I don't have specifics on $$$ but I know it's good.

citadel at nu only hires for operations, at least thats what the fairs had last year.

Does that mean UChicago gets all the front office recruiting or is citadel recruiting outside the midwest region instead?

I was accepted to transfer to NU and UChicago for this Fall; I chose NU. I emailed a member of their college recruiter team asking if they actively recruit at both institutions and was told they that do.

Yes, Citadel recruits a lot at Harvard, Pton, MIT and Stanford also.

Cit always a very good name, but considered an incredibly tough culture. They show people the door pretty quickly (this is true). Better places to be than Cit, although out of college probably the best HF to go to since very few other big names rarely hire out of college. There's a reason they are not the first choice for people with more experience who move around in the HF space (also, they are huge, although IT makes up 1/2 the firm, don't expect the same pay escalation as other HF's unless you are a star)

What kind of strategies do they use? That is, what books will help me "make numbers"? I'm pretty familiar with Buffett's essays, but I doubt they are a value investing fund.

most (or at least alot) of their assistant trader positions go to harvard, princeton, wharton undergrads. They don't have to stick to chicago/nu seeing as how they are probably one of best known hfs around.

According to DealBreaker, JPM has stopped trading with Citadel beacuse they keep poaching all of JPM's talent.

i did final rounds with citadel my senior yr. although the ITAP program is well ragarded - and the only hedge fund 'training' program I know of - I stayed away because I wanted to do a BB and stay on the east coast for a few more years. people at final rounds were penn/harvard/MIT heavy.

first rounds at school, you'll do 1 fit interview with a jr person/HR, and one technical interview. Based on your resume, you'll either have a fundamentals interview or a trading interview. I had taken a lot of math and econometrics, so mine was trading. PM me for popular questions.

final rounds were in chicago. you interview with 4 people. My first interview was fit, my second was fundamentals (they good-cop/bad-copped me on this), third was options theory (one of the toughest ever), and final was a fit interview with rates - it's really just to see how you held up.

the fund is known for trading and quant (brilliant people in both areas), but it employs a lot of great fundamental people who look for good long-term investments like P/E analysts. my friends who accepted their offers were some of the smartest guys at wharton - 2 were in my poker game in college.

a friend who went to NU got a job in research with citadel. Interned for over a year with them before getting the job.

Citadel is actually a traditional multi strategy hedge fund, which encompasses quant, long-short, various arb strategies, etc.
