Citi strengths
Hi All
I am a first year MBA student in a stop 5 school , interviewing for Summer Associate at some bulge brackets next week. I have a technology background so I am aware that JPM, GS, MS, CS are really strong TMT teams.
I have an interview with Citi as well, and am unable to come up with a "Why Citi " answer from a professional point of view. I like the people I networked with and all that, but what is Citi really good at?
Also, Any thoughts on how I can pull up specific league tables fir an industry?
thanks
WG
Their easy to remember ticker symbol?
you will be fine if you throw in the phrase "citi's global reach" throughout the interview
Well, it's Too Big To Fail
Yes, I worked for Citi before and Citi is in more countries than the other BBs, so global reach is definitely a strong point.
Also Citi just started to turn a profit so you can say it is a good time to join a great institution back on the rise.
You can always say the people that you met were impressive, that always works.
They stress that they're truly a global company. About 2/3 of their revenue comes from N/A and Europe, but they're looking to diversify their revenue by making a big push into the emerging markets in Latin America and Asia. Their revenue mix could be 50/50 in a couple of years.
Citigroup: How does it compare (Originally Posted: 08/31/2006)
How does Citigroup stack up against GS, MS, ML, Lehman, etc? Also, what are some of the best groups at Citi?
Citi is below GS/MS/ML..probably on par/slightly above Lehman.
They are a disappointment because with Citi's BS, they should dominate.
what about against JPM?
probably slighly below JPM
NT
Mikes, is that a US perspective?
US perspective (based on prestige)
Citi is up and coming though..lot more deal flow past 2 years than in the past.
Agreed. They've been doing well in Europe - they're #3 after GS and JPM, followed by MS and ML.
Is Citi's IBD bigger than its competitors? It's often said that Citi is a big firm, but does Citi IBD have more people than its competitors?

This year Citi is #2 in the M&A league tables. They were historically mediocre in M&A but have been doing really well, mostly b/c of their ability to get lev fin deals with pe firms like KKR, TPG, etc.
