Career progression- compliance?

Hey, so long time reader first time poster, and I realise that many of you here are FO orientated and that this may get a lot of heat, but I was wondering whether anyone had an idea/ knows anyone who has an idea of the career progressions in compliance?

Im due to start at a BB next year, and no I'm not looking to switch to FO but considering most analysts leave after two years, is this expected of compliance analysts too? Obviously there is the choice to maybe go into HF compliance etc and I've done that too which is tons of fun but I'm just kind of confused. Whereas those in IBD/M&A are looking to get MBAs I'm not so sure getting a JD will really speed things up (though that is definitely one of my considerations). Anyways just wanted to ask, would be real grateful if anyone had any input!

The only thing I can tell you about compliance is I trek the three flights of stairs down everyday to poo in their bathrooms, since they all arrive late and can have the whole area to myself.

Try the BB banks if you have a JD and experience. Also the Big 4 have smaller but similar departments that do bank Secrecy Act/Anti Money Laundering stuff. A friend of mine is an arbitrator that does work for FINRA (they are one of the biggest alternative dispute resolution players) and he told me back in April that they are hiring, that might be an option with a JD.

I did compliance work for years, but in a investigative research/ due diligence consulting firm. I LOVED it. I miss it dearly, and I regret the day I decided to leave for the public sector (mostly because I'm now laid off.) Its some of the most fun financial research for sure.
