Depending on where you are,

Depending on where you are, this is a great avenue for more creative dates. Do something out of the ordinary. Instead of wining and dining her at a fancy restaurant, take her to Chez PatekPhilippe for a candle lit dinner for two. There's always the old standby of pizza and a movie. Do a Picnic Lunch somewhere. Get her involved in a hobby that you enjoy. I turned my ex onto beer because I loved home brewing. She and I would come up with a beer idea and brew it to completion together and then reap our benefit by having a cheap night in together with a few beers and a movie. Being low key and creative was one of the few things I was glad I did in college, as one of my ex's loved the unusual approach (and the beer we brewed) and her roommates thought I was a sensitive romantic type for doing that.

Also, try thinking outside the city you are in. If you have a car, despite the cost of Gas, find a farm and go apple/pumpkin picking or find a way to make a day out of an event. If you're in Manhattan, take a train to someplace unusual from Penn Station for relatively cheap. Go spend the day in Center City, Philadelphia. It'll cost you 36.50 Per Person (21.50 RT NJTransit + 15 RT Septa 6 Zone ticket for the R7 Line into Philly) and is a great way to do something outside the box given the proximity.

right. craigslist has been

right. craigslist has been providing cheap hookers for a long time now. but frankly they're just too unattractive most of the time. might as well spend a bit more at eros-ny.com or something.

i remember back in spring

i remember back in spring 2002, there was a mini 'baby boom' attributed to people 'staying in' around 9/11.

Honestly, I would make it

Honestly, I would make it cheap not bar cheap maybe a TGI Friday's and hit a club nothing too flashy.

That sounds too high school. maybe skip the club then and just go home after TGI Friday.

Along with the cheap is

Along with the cheap is good, it depends on the cheap. Cheap as in "dive bar" or a TGI Friday's could be viewed as tacky. If you want cheap, and are looking for something more inside the box, try and find a number of off the beaten path restaurants and try them. You'd be surprised as what you can find that's great food and reasonably priced. A small little joint that looks like a Dive may in fact be a hidden gem. Bring a bottle of wine or two and you can have a night out for under 70.

Also, cross the river into Hoboken and explore there. It's Jersey, I know, but it's also a bit cheaper. For a night out in Manhattan, I can get between 1.5 and 2 nights out depending on where I go in Hoboken.
