Disney Corp Strat/Dev summer internship
Hello,
I am curious if anyone has had an interview with Disney's Corporate Strategy/development summer internship. I go to a non-target, but got a phone interview with them early next week. I am wondering if anyone knows anything about it, and has any tips? I read over WSO, but didn't find much. I understand how legit it is, and it would be nice to be a little more prepared for this interview.
Thanks in advance.
id personally take disney over a BB... just my opinion.
If this is what I'm thinking it is, they hire like 1 person every year and it's usually someone from Harvard or Princeton
heard and noticed the same off of linkedin..
Yea, it's a tough group to break into. Absolutely worth doing the interview though, sorry I can't help with it.
hey neon,
this is a legit group and best of luck. even in a strategy group within disney it'd be a great resume builder during your undergrad.
you should be prepared to talk about the recent deals and joint ventures they did. most notably, the lucasfilm acquisition and what you'd do with that piece of asset. do understand that its businesses span so many different aspects of people's lives and when you do an acquisition or venture you need to take into consideration how that would affect others in its intertwined web. there are a few other pieces of assets that you should also look into, and also think about whether things make sense strategically.
other than that, brush up on your fundamentals. mainly modeling, M&A and DCF i think are the two main ones you should worry about.
any thoughts on disney vs bb or mm?
Disney is an exceptional opportunity. It's probably on par with the "top groups" at BBs or, more accurately, consulting at MBB. Take a look at the LinkedIn profiles: https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&safe=off&rlz=1C1_____enUS449US449&q…

dude those are serious
Shit yea they are. Definitely baller status. I remember somebody on here saying that getting into this program makes people a soon-to-be BSD
Anyone here have the chance to interview? pm me
Did you apply through their career website or your school's career site? I'm looking into corporate finance in some other firms and want to know if i should apply through their career website or not even bother if they don't recruit at my school. Thanks
Disney Corp Dev? (Originally Posted: 08/08/2010)
Hey guys,
I was browsing some job sites and i found a posting for a senior analyst position at Disney Interactive Media Group. I have heard a decent amount about Disney's legendary corp dev program... and I was wondering if this position was the same thing. If not, do you guys think this will provide the same opportunities and experience as Disney's corp dev group? The job duties seem the same as a typical corp dev. role, but the position is under DIMG instead of Disney as a whole. Appreciate your insights.

from the job requirements it sounds like it, so I'd interpret it to be the same thing. I'd imagine even if you were in "Disney" and not "DIMG" you'd be in a specific sector anyway, so in this case your specific sector just happens to be its own entity.
It is -- Disney operates across a few different divisions, and the IMG is one of them. It's sort of like working in an industry group at Goldman.
IMG is probably the most interesting of the groups as well (at least IMO). Strong focus on technology and things like internet, social media, video games, etc.
Yes - this is a great position. The IMG group works on a lot of the coolest stuff (in my opinion), and you'd have great exit opps. However, good luck - Disney Corp Dev is EXTREMELY competitive. They only hire a few every year, and typically only from top banks and consulting firms.
I interviewed there when I was still in banking - the interview process is long and tough. Took me 3 phone interviews to get to a phone case study, and then the next step after that was an in-person in Burbank. Good luck...
Disney corporate strategy/development for (summer) analyst position (Originally Posted: 02/05/2012)
Have seen past posts on this topic, but wanted to get a current view on the strength of this group. Seems like a good combo of corporate finance/transactions with strategy. A LinkedIn scanning suggests that their analysts place into pretty unique opportunities. I'm curious about doing an internship or full-time position with this group coming from a target undergrad.
Would you take an entry-level role at DIS over M/B/B or BB/elite boutique IBD? What's your take on relative prestige? Long-term benefits/consequences?
I've read about it quite a bit and I'd strongly consider it if you're really interested in the media space, which I am. Seems near impossible to get a spot there out of undergrad if you're not from a target unfortunately.
They have 1 spot open every year, I believe, and I think the person who gets it usually turns into some Hollywood bigwig or something. It's magic, what'd you expect from Disney?
Solid pay, great benefits and you could wind up in their VC arm (Steamboat Ventures). They have quite a few VC investments in Shanghai and Beijing. Very talented persons.
I'm sure I have said this before but I would take a spot on Disney's team over almost anything I can think of
From what I've heard from talking to people with first-hand experience, I can confirm the above opinions are all correct. The strategy/corp dev team is filled primarily with ex-bankers and mgmt. consultants, and I think getting a spot out of undergrad would be ridiculously hard. The one con I have heard is the hours are pretty bad, which is weird for a corp dev position. But given the place hires a ton of ex-bankers, that's not very surprising.
The M&A corporate strategy group typically only hires from Harvard. The corporate strategy/finance rotation program has three target schools: Harvard, Princeton, and Stanford. It may be possible to get a full-time job there without being from one of these target schools if you have connections, but these are the only undergrad universities that Disney currently does on-campus recruiting for.

Any thoughts on the position? What is the interview usually like?
Usually depends on your background - where are your prior internships?
