Disney Corp Strat/Dev summer internship

Hello,

I am curious if anyone has had an interview with Disney's Corporate Strategy/development summer internship. I go to a non-target, but got a phone interview with them early next week. I am wondering if anyone knows anything about it, and has any tips? I read over WSO, but didn't find much. I understand how legit it is, and it would be nice to be a little more prepared for this interview.

Thanks in advance.

If this is what I'm thinking it is, they hire like 1 person every year and it's usually someone from Harvard or Princeton

Yea, it's a tough group to break into. Absolutely worth doing the interview though, sorry I can't help with it.

hey neon,

this is a legit group and best of luck. even in a strategy group within disney it'd be a great resume builder during your undergrad.

you should be prepared to talk about the recent deals and joint ventures they did. most notably, the lucasfilm acquisition and what you'd do with that piece of asset. do understand that its businesses span so many different aspects of people's lives and when you do an acquisition or venture you need to take into consideration how that would affect others in its intertwined web. there are a few other pieces of assets that you should also look into, and also think about whether things make sense strategically.

other than that, brush up on your fundamentals. mainly modeling, M&A and DCF i think are the two main ones you should worry about.

TonyPerkis][quote=D M]Disney is an exceptional opportunity. It's probably on par with the top groups at <abbr title=bulge brackets>BBs</abbr> or, more accurately, consulting at <span class=keyword_link><a href=//www.wallstreetoasis.com/guide/consulting-case-interviews>MBB</a></span>. Take a look at the LinkedIn profiles: <a href=https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&amp;safe=off&amp;rlz=1C1_____enUS449US449&amp;q=site%3Alinkedin.com+disney+corporate+strategy&amp;oq=site%3Alinkedin.com+disney+corporate+strategy&amp;gs_l=serp.3...130046.140012.0.140288.59.51.8.0.0.0.128.2787.48j3.51.0.les%3Bcrnk_timediscountb..0.0...1.1.4.serp.fjJkGs6mkYU[/quote rel=nofollow>https://www.google.com/search?hl=en&amp;safe=off&amp;rlz=1C1_____enUS449US449&amp;q…</a>:

Did you apply through their career website or your school's career site? I'm looking into corporate finance in some other firms and want to know if i should apply through their career website or not even bother if they don't recruit at my school. Thanks

It is -- Disney operates across a few different divisions, and the IMG is one of them. It's sort of like working in an industry group at Goldman.

IMG is probably the most interesting of the groups as well (at least IMO). Strong focus on technology and things like internet, social media, video games, etc.

Yes - this is a great position. The IMG group works on a lot of the coolest stuff (in my opinion), and you'd have great exit opps. However, good luck - Disney Corp Dev is EXTREMELY competitive. They only hire a few every year, and typically only from top banks and consulting firms.

I interviewed there when I was still in banking - the interview process is long and tough. Took me 3 phone interviews to get to a phone case study, and then the next step after that was an in-person in Burbank. Good luck...

They have 1 spot open every year, I believe, and I think the person who gets it usually turns into some Hollywood bigwig or something. It's magic, what'd you expect from Disney?

From what I've heard from talking to people with first-hand experience, I can confirm the above opinions are all correct. The strategy/corp dev team is filled primarily with ex-bankers and mgmt. consultants, and I think getting a spot out of undergrad would be ridiculously hard. The one con I have heard is the hours are pretty bad, which is weird for a corp dev position. But given the place hires a ton of ex-bankers, that's not very surprising.

The M&A corporate strategy group typically only hires from Harvard. The corporate strategy/finance rotation program has three target schools: Harvard, Princeton, and Stanford. It may be possible to get a full-time job there without being from one of these target schools if you have connections, but these are the only undergrad universities that Disney currently does on-campus recruiting for.
