Financial Careers
I'm a wall street dreamer. I want to live in NYC. I'm currently going to be a freshman at UF and studying accounting. Eventually, some day I see myself as a top executive in the future and I plan to work my ass off until I'm at that point. When should I plan to find internships and what else do I need to do to get to that level?
I think some accounting firms offer freshman-sopohmore internships. Get internships as soon as you can, it is never too early. Make sure to improve upon your internship experience as you go through college.
1) Transfer schools + change major to finance & econ 2) Extra Curriculars + 3.5-3.8 GPA 3) Sophomore year PWM or AM internships at BBs 4) Network (cold email + cold call) 5) Junior year BB or elite boutique IB SA 6) FT offer 7) 2+2= PE 8) President or w/e
Print 100 copies of this list off and plaster your wall with it.
Many executives have accounting degrees and are CPAs. I'd personally much rather speak to a CFO who is a CPA when working on projects. I do not think a change in major is required to become an executive, only investment banker. Although this may offend people here, there is more to business than investment banking.. here comes the monkey shit.
Gave you a +1.
You can get there without transferring. Get a 3.8+ at Florida, get a PWM internship after freshman year, then something decent after sophomore year (boutique IB, F500, AM, Big 4, other accounting internship, etc). Make sure you're involved in stuff, preferably having at at least 1-2 leadership positions. Network like crazy with alums and others, prepare for interviews well, and you'll be ok.
Thanks for your help!
