First FT IBD Interview Tomorrow

I have my first interview for a BB IBD position tomorrow and was wondering if there were any tips or recommendations from experienced folks out there. I am a chemical engineer by degree and this is my first interview in the finance field so I have been reading the Vault guide as well as searching the internet to get up to speed. If there is anything I be aware of for the interview I'd appreciate the help. Thanks.

Know how to answer the questions why investment banking and walk me through your resume. the wso technical and interview guide are also great resources.

One thing I'd recommend is try to be relaxed and personable. Don't be a goof with a big grin and overly eager and try to come off as serious about the position. Mantain eye contact, deliver your answers succinctly and in a fashion that's logical and easy to follow. If they give you technical questions be ready to give follow up answers in the same manner I stated above.

From personal experience, I'd say try to be a little less formal with jr people and more formal with sr. folks, but in general keep a professional tone and delivery with everyone. Be on time, don't smell bad, and make sure you wear your best suit, shoes polished, and in general your appearence is very appealing/professional. How you carry / present yourself is key with a lot of people.

Definitely they will try to pull some crazy questions on you to see your thought process....I think 90% of it is thought process at 10% is actually what you answer. Know the division well and the business principles of the firm--this is vital for fit, which is 99% of what they look for in the first round. Make sure to have some question to ask them, specifically in regard to current events that would affect the division--I suggest reading the WSJ if you don't already. Make sure you know what is in the Money and Investing section tomorrow, and also the current stock trading price. The walk me through your resume question is their biggest thing in the first round, so be prepared to elaborate on your internship experiences etc. Again, I stress KNOWING the business principles of the firm!!! Just relax, be yourself, and good luck!!!

Well I got tripped up on a word problem they threw at me but besides that I think it went fairly well. They acknowledged that I hadn't had any formal finance classes and tried to be somewhat understanding of that. Was able to answer some questions about valuation methods and etc so now we'll just have to wait and see.

Got dinged, not surprising given that I've never taken a finance class and my GPA was below their minimum requirement. Not sure why they gave me an interview in the first place but it was a good experience.

^^ it happens. My first IB interview was a disaster, and truthfully probably the next 4-5 weren't much better. One thing I did that helped was sign up for every possible interview I could (finance or not) that was doing OCR. Bankers know that they're inferior to engineers intellegence wise, so wasn't uncommon for some of the banks I interviewed with to let my lower GPA slide. You got the interview because either your resume stands out or you connected with the right person. Bankers aren't very different across the spectrum, so if you did it once you can probably do it again. Keep at it.

I did the same thing, after 2 or 3 interviews you're completely on your game and from there it's just a waiting game. Practice makes perfect.

Yeah after I got this interview I saw that there must be something that interests them in relation to my background so I applied to all the BB and top boutiques at their energy office locations to see if I can get a bite. Hopefully I can get another chance because I feel like with each opportunity Ill just get more and more refined.
