Fixed Income S&T versus WM Analyst in New York
Hello world,
I am a junior at a non-target school and am having trouble deciding where to intern this summer. I have an offer from a boutique Fixed Income Sales and Trading firm, and am waiting to hear back from final round interviews at Morgan Stanley and J.P. Morgan in their wealth management SA position.
The S&T firm is a startup, and there is an opportunity to gain equity in the company (if it is distributed). It is a very fast growing company with great early success, and it is not in New York. The internship this summer would be unpaid, but with full time possibilities at the end.
I feel like the S&T position is a cooler position where I could potentially learn more, and might be what I want to do in the future. However, I am unsure of what full time salaries are like at these small S&T firms, and it doesn't exactly provide the job security that I am looking for.. Also, I am unsure if not being in New York will cut me off from some opportunities in the long run. What are your thoughts? I am trying to put this in a 1 year outlook and a 5 year outlook, and make my decision from there.
Thanks!
This all comes down to want you want to do in the end. I would take the S&T role as its much easier to move from S&T -> PWM if you decided trading isn't for you.
