From IB to AM, student
Hi all. I've been in the forum for a while, seeing lots of discussions about the AM industry in US. Wondering if there're experienced ppl working in China/HK that can give a helping hand. Appreciate your help in advance!
A bit of my backgroun. I'm a final year finance undergrad at a top Chinese uni (and will start as a 1st year master of finance candidate this Sep). Prior experiences include several investment banking internships (Laz, Rothschild, CICC, in BJ/HK), sales and marketing at Franklin Templeton; average GPA. I have started to be interested in the Asset Management (preferably portfolio management/equity research) field, and now looking for an internship in the industry (ultimately breaking into firms like BlackRock/Fidelity, etc. in HK).
Do you guys have any insight of whether my past experience will hurt my chance (I can imagine ppl asking me why I dont keep on working on IB/PE)? Do you guys have any idea how I can boost my chance of getting an favorable internship experience?
Many thanks!

Following.
Easy to justify leaving IB for AM. interview answer:
"I really liked getting to know companies in depth, but what I really love is markets. Reasearching companies and using that research to provide real results and generate returns for clients". Or something like this.
Used something similar in my interview when asked "why leave consulting for AM?"
Seems like a pretty solid background to me. Just be sure to dedicate time to your stock pitch. Most of the bankers I've interviewed have pretty good command of the technicals, but they really struggle coming up with a differentiated view on a stock. Make sure you have one.
Thanks everyone! I finally landed an offer at Fidelity. :)
Congrats - that is strong! Fido Hong Kong? I have a good friend there.
Yes! It's for Fido HK, but it's just a summer research associate position. Still need to work hard for a return offer so as to eventually stay :)
