GOP's minority problem
No I am not talking them to start pandering to illegals or people that come over and start popping babies every year.
You have this group that
1) leads in small business
2) is most educated in the country
3) has highest average income, with 30% of the households earning over 100k
4) epitomizes the term "hard working" (I know i am generalizing)
5) who gets shafted by handout/ affirmative action policies.
6) and you have a sizable group (koreans) who are tend to be religious and pro-gun!
In 1992, Asian Americans supported Bush 41/GOP by 55-31 margin.
This year, they went 73% for Obama while 27% went for Romney.
This segment of the population should be a shoe-in for the GOP.
In 20 years, we went from carrying them by 20+ points to losing them by 40+.

This pisses me off so much. Asian Americans are tailored made for our party. They emphasize family values, hard work, and rugged individualism. And as you said, they get SHAFTED by liberal policies, especially affirmative action.
The GOP really needs to do soul searching.
They only made up 3% of the electorate. Excellent points by the OP, but I don't see the GOP looking to the Asian-Americans because they're too small of a group.
Then again, maybe a large majority of them sat out the election because they didn't like either candidate. In which case, it could in fact be a major hidden treasure chest just waiting to be discovered.
To the OP (I'm too lazy to do the research) but do you know what percent of the electorate the Asian-American vote was in '92 and other years? Or whether they just don't vote as a whole?
Asian-Americans are not a single monolithic group, but are made of 2 basic groups: East Asians (China, HK, Korea, Taiwan, Japan, etc) and Southeast Asians (Phillipines, Cambodia, Laos, Thailand, Vietnam et al.). Folks in the former group are more wealthier, more educated, and more conservative than the latter, on average.
You can hammer handouts vs. tax increases all you want. But young, highly educated Asians aren't going to back a party associated with crazy social views, e.g. rape apologists, homophobes and xenophobes (in terms of hispanic immigration, indian outsourcing, or chinese currency "cheating")
The asian-Americans of today are not the conservative immigrants of yesteryear.
Data point. Previously exit polling was conducted in all 50 states. That was not done this year.

I am curious to see how the exit polling from TX/HI would have influenced the aggregate number of the Asian vote split.
I also believe that this made Romney underperform on exit polls for Hispanics because TX went 57-40 for Romney. I think Romney won more than 29% of Hispanics in Texas, basically (which would have increased his margin nationally).
I can not fathom why any Asian-American would vote for a Democrat when they push for anti-Asian discrimination known as Affirmative Action. I can not understand why Asians, most of whom are LEGAL immigrants would support a party that is bent on rewarding people who came here by flouting American immigration laws.
