Guys who leave "Employer" off Facebook profile = living at home?
I gotta confess: I'm one of those guys with over 1200 Facebook friends, 800 of which belong to my school. I decided to look through the people who graduated in 09 and 08 just to see where they are today (these are Ivy guys).
What I found was that many people didn't list their current employer. One guy had, for example, "JP Morgan - Summer Intern" and "Wachovia Intern" but they were for 2006 and 2007...it's now 2010 and their employment dates end at 2007 with a summer internship. Another guy, who graduated in 2008 had "MTV Internship" but that was for 2006 and his employer list ends there. A whole bunch of people who graduated in 2007 didn't even list their employers nor did they join any groups (like "Microsoft Engineers 2009!!!!!!!!! yay!", for example). A couple of them are in grad schools so I didn't count their employment info.
Are all these guys living at home or don't feel like giving out personal info or what? All their Facebooks are still very active.
i did a quick survey of your friends. about 60% say they are living at home, with the other 40% saying that they're just not pretentious enough to do it. 100% think you're a tool.
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Poor attempt at trolling.
Alright I am not trolling. How is this trolling? I'm graduating soon and I was curious as to where everybody ended up. It's a smart thing to do. And seeing a lot of people's employment info on their profiles end with "Summer Internship" even after 2-3 years is a bit concerning to me.
The "hahaha"s you see across the screen was my reaction to the first replier. I thought it was funny.
precisely to prevent creepers like you from knowing where they work. if you were really their friend you can just call them or text them or leave a fb message asking them.
exactly.
I keep my friends close, and my enemies on facebook. I never update my facebook and don't have my employment profile on it either. If someone on there assumes that I have no job, then fine, I don't care. If one my real friends assumes that I have no job they just ring me up/meet me in person and I tell them otherwise.
Although having said that, I am not as popular or cool as you, and so don't have 1200 friends.
cool it with the sarcasm...the whole reason I typed "I gotta confess..." at the top of my post was to show the ridiculousness that I have so many facebook "friends"...the summer of college freshman year everyone thought Facebook was the coolest thing ever and we friended everyone even people we dont know haha....I never said they were my "friends"....I was just curious as to where everyone ended up
sheesh
Professional reasons. A lot of people don't put their current employer on FB for privacy reasons.
Most people want to keep their personal lives and professional lives separate.
not sure how common it is, but my firm requires us to declare any website that we list our employment status with them, so they can keep track of it... So to most of us, its just not worth the hassle
ah okay. gotcha
Every year or so I go through my facebook and "purge" my friend list of people that I never should have friended in the first place. You can also modify your privacy settings so certain people can see your employer while others can't. Don't assume that because you can see your buddies employment status that the rest of the world can.
Not that it really matters for me anyways. My name is listed on my employer's website -- so a quick google search for my name and my college gives it all away.
That's a lie. I googled both "CompBanker" and "Comp Banker" and couldn't find it.
