Hit the Desk in September - Brothers Wedding in December?

I start at a BB this summer. Training is through August and I start on my desk in September. My brother is getting married across the country in December. I am supposed to be a groomsman in his wedding. It’s a pretty big deal that I go, obviously. How negatively will this be viewed? I always hear horror stories about people having to miss weddings, etc. I worked hard last summer for my offer and long hours, etc wont be a problem, but I worry that asking for a weekend off so soon after I start will give me a bad reputation. Am I freaking out over nothing or will this look bad?

Do not miss your brother's wedding. You will regret that so much more than you will regret putting your associate in a tough spot for a weekend. Also, don't mention it now. Wait until 2-4 weeks before the event. Your group will be able to manage. Some people might give you a hard time, but most won't.

In either case, it will be far from their minds by the time they discuss bonuses in ~April/May, and by December people will already have a view as to whether you are a good or bad analyst.

Part of being able to survive as an analyst is knowing when to take a hard line and push back. This is one of those times.

why is this even a question? What kind of brainwashing is going on that causes people to think missing work for a brother's wedding is a problem
