How Am I shaping up for Summer '15 Internships?
Hey guys, first post on WSO. I just wanted to get your opinion on how I'm shaping up for summer '15 internships. Currently a sophomore in a mid-tier business school. I am looking either to intern in a hedge fund or a fixed-income role, haven't decided yet. This summer I'm doing two internships. One of them is at a reputable financial services/i-bank in town where I'll be taking on fixed-income, i-bank and equity roles. The second one is a finance gig at a reputable corporation in town(second year). I just want to note that in the midwest, internships especially for sophomores are hard to get by because most places only hire juniors. Does my experience stack up?
Where in the midwest roughly?
It largely depends on what you do. This "reputable financial services/i-bank in town where I'll be taking on fixed-income, i-bank and equity roles" sounds a bit vague. What are you looking to do in summer '15? Decide that and then hone in on your chosen division. Learn to add whatever little value you can (most of the times, this is nil) and learn how to be a human sponge. Secondly, turn that experience into the most mouth-watering few bullet points on your CV for the following year.
Minneapolis, big hedge fund town but i-banking almost doesn't exist. Rumples, my boss said that I will be exposed to all areas in my projects and its a big opportunity here especially since I'm a sophomore. I'm interested in both fixed-income and equities so I feel that this internship will help me fully decide going into next year what I'll be looking for.
Sounds like you know which you would prefer. Go with your interests. You'll take more from the opportunity bruh.
How are you going to do two internships at the same time? I'm assuming they are both part time?
Da Chief, One is on Fridays during the rest of the school year, then a little bit in the summer when I'm not working the other one. Then one day a week when i'm working full time at the other one, after work.
