How common is it for Associates or VP's to get a piece of the equity as compensation for their acquisition work?
How common is it for Associates or VP's to get, for example, a percentage of the acquisition entity (GP LLC) which acquires the property?
I've never once heard of this happening. So id say very uncommon? Interested to hear if it has though and what the circumstances were.
It depends. Most aren't "given" anything. They have to buy in like everyone else. They're just allowed to at a certain level. Only time I've seen something like that at all, and it's not really the same, is when a broker has rolled their fee into an equity share in the deal. And that's only if the GP and broker are like, best friends. And possibly married one anothers' sisters.
Ive only seen Directors get carried interest on development deals...
I've seen exceptions to "only directors" but only if you were a critical member of the founding team. They might throw you a bone.
