How many suits/shirts/shoes/belts/ties do I need for an FT IBD position?
Right now I have two good suits, 5 shirts (2 good ones), 1 pair of Allen Edmonds, 3 good ties, and one belt.
How many of everything do I need for an FT IBD stint assuming my firm has a pretty conservative dress code?
5 Suits 10-15 Shirts 2-4 Shoes (matching belts) 6-10 Ties 40 Pairs of socks
-- No cufflinks No bowties No tiebars No fancy/colorful socks No black suits Get clothes that fit
Any advice on what is 'ok' for suits beyond the basic charcoal, mid grey, and navy? Just wasn't sure how far you can push it in terms of stuff like patterns, specially since you're no longer a bitch summer intern gunning for a return offer (obviously you're still an analyst bitch, but you don't have a looming threat anymore other than bonuses). For example, no one really wears windowpane suits in my office, but is it really THAT bad if I want one?
Or if you favor extreme cutaway/keaton collars, is someone really going to give a shit?
lol windowpane suits, do you have a thing for them?
Advice from me?
Assuming NYC, I think subtle patterns are fine, and easier to be more formal. You don't want to go to flashy. But it really depends on the office culture, I think at least when you first start you don't want to get a reputation you don't want, see here: //www.wallstreetoasis.com/forums/i-f-up-my-lunch-run-help-me-fix-the-damage
I love windowpane... But there are some places you can't wear something like that, some places you can... It all depends.
