How should I be persistent?

About a week ago, I spoke to an analyst at a new (2-year old) boutique and he passed my resume on to the recruiter for a Fall internship. I emailed her to follow up today, and got this response: "I received your resume and cover letter from our team. At this time, we are not recruiting for fall internships. We have your resume on file and will review it upon our next recruiting efforts." The email included her company number.

This firm is really an ideal fit for me. What's the next step? Should I call and find out what the problem is and then try to make my case? Should I email periodically? Should I reach out the the partners/founders? I don't think I stand a chance at analyst recruiting with them without an internship.

What's a good next step?

Talk to your analyst contact and thank him for his help. He might push for you, and at the very least you maintain the relationship.
