Career Resources
I actually find MergerMarket to be pretty good. Paid resource, but most schools / employers have access.

Term Sheet email
Fortune's Term Sheet is good at explaining M&A deals on both the private and public side. I would definitely subscribe to their daily morning Term Sheet.
This. Pretty much all I read for general M&A news nowadays
Great for keeping up with PE and VC activity too, highly recommended

How to disect and understand news reports on M&A (Originally Posted: 11/10/2014)
I have been reading M & A info from online news sources and Pillars of wall street's "deal of the week." I don't know what else to do to learn more about the acquisitions. I have access to a bloomberg terminals and university databases that may contain information.
I really want to understand this stuff because the conceptual process is very interesting, but I have yet to walk through it on a real deal.
Very broadly, there's only a few key things to take away (and it's also what you talk about in the interviews, if you are reading these reports for that purpose)
1) The financials (size, ebitda, margins) and industry of the target 2) The price paid, % acquisition, form of payment (cash/stock/debt) 3) The rationale of the deal
Is it wrong to look at the comments? I sometimes think they can help frame an opinion on the deal, but not from a reporter-y side, ya know?
Just read the 8Ks about the deal
